Falling in love

Share

I guess it's true when they say you never really realize how important someone is untill their gone. When I was 11 years old I had a brother, not a real brother but a church brother. He was two years older then me and he was the best role model anyone could have. I had known him most of my life and grown to love him. He promised me he was always going to be by my side; he was going to be my partner my best friend. I didnt take his words to thought untill the day he passed on. September 10.

Our relationship started like any other relationship that kids are in. He bought me candy I gave him hugs. It was all fun. He always promised me that when he was 16 he would drive me everywhere, places like disneyland. I guess when your little thats something exciting. The thing is he never got around to 16, only 13 almost 14.

We lived in a town that was about 10 minutes apart or so. Church was where we met every week. When I was around 11 years old my parents decided to move away though. That spring we moved to a town an hour away making it harder for me to see him. We still talked on the phone and online. I guess you can say I missed him. I saw him once in a while when I visited, but the last time I saw him I regret it.

The day I was to visit him I was so excited it had been a while. We ended up meeting at a mall and I was happy. When something happened he made me mad. He argued with me and didnt seem too happy after a while. We started arguing and screaming when I just left saying whatever jerk I hate you bye. I guess you can say that was the worst mistake of my life. The fatal day in mid July.
On the morning of September 10th I woke up feeling like it was any ordinary day. I walked downstairs to see my mom give me a slight grin. That moment I knew something was wrong. I asked her whats wrong mom. She didnt say anything. I asked over and over again untill she handed me the news paper. I started reading it said a 13 year boy had been shot. Then I read the name and it was him. I couldnt believe it I started breaking down in tears. I had lost my partner for life my best friend, my brother.
The reason of his death was he was shot by a gang member. He was hanging out when a gang member saw him and mistaked him for a rival gang member. He was killed with one shot. The sad thing was he wasnt even in a gang, but his friends were. I guess gangs have their own reasons, sometimes reasons I cant understand. He lost his life so young because he hung out with people that were involved in things he shouldnt have been near.

To my brother. I hope your watching over me. To the boy who bought me ice cream and candy who told me you'd protect me. To the boy who is my partner for life and always will be. I miss you and I Love you, and one day we will reunite. Thank-You for everything brother. I'm sorry that I wasnt a great sister. That I didnt see what was coming. Forgive me Partner.
