This is Jeopardy!

She was my first serious girlfriend. We had been dating for one year, two months and 18 days (as I found out the day after we broke up because she called me with the exact figure...But that is a whole other story). Things hadn't been going well for a while. She was very jealous that I was spending time with friends (both male and female), and was always calling to see where I was, what I was doing and where I was going. Being a 16 year old guy who got enough of this from his parents, this didn't sit well.

So the break-up began on Election Night 1996. I was on my way out of the house to go to a campaign party and she called and started up with all of her questions. Out of nowhere, I blurted out, "I don't think this is working." She asked what I meant, and I said I had to go and I hung up the phone.

A week later, she called and asked me to come over to hear house so we could talk. We both had the next Monday off (we went to different schools, but it was Veterans Day), so I said I would come over.

Once I got there, she was crying, asking if I meant it, and I said I don't know...But over and over in my head all I kept hearing was "of course you mean it dummy, otherwise you wouldn't have said it in the first place."

So as the theme music for Jeopardy just finished on the television, I said "I think we should stop seeing each other."

After that, things get foggy, because all I remember was a lot of crying, screaming and me walking to my car about 30 seconds later. She slammed the door so hard I thought she actually broke the glass in it, but I just kept walking and drove away.

Looking back, I feel really bad because before we offically broke up, we started making out a little on her couch. I think she was hoping that it would get me to stay with her, and I think I was thinking that that maybe I should give it a try. And of course all that did was make it harder for me to break-up with her and for her, it made her feel all sorts of used, which is probably what lead to the slamming door and the crying.

We never ended up getting back together, and it wasn't for her trying. She send cards, gifts, and called a lot. We also never were friends again...Which is sad, but typical.
