Caught Stealing

Share

The first time I got caught stealing, I wasn't even the one that had the lighters (the item stolen). It was my friend I was with that stole the lighters out of the store. He wouldn't have been caught except that when he got home he RAN up to his room to hide the lighters, not even stopping to say hi to his mother, like he always did. His mother followed him up to his room and saw him quickly stash something under the bed. She asked him what he was doing then looked under the bed herself and found the lighters.

She then called my mom told her the situation, and my mom picked my friend and his mother and drove us back to the store to return the lighters. The store called the cops and had us arrested. We were charged for stealing and then taken to court. The judge issued us 200 hours of community service and told us to write a formal letter of apology to Rite-Aid for our actions.

I ended up working at the middle school I attended to complete my community service, working as a janitor, something I NEVER want to do EVER again in my life. I vacuumed and swept the floor of the halls and classrooms I attended and sat in during the day. I had to explain to the teachers the liked me and thought I was such a great person and student, what had happened and why I was there after hours, which was more embarrassing then the stealing, being in court, or facing my parents. I liked the teachers there and didn’t like them looking at me the way they did when they found out that I was not as innocent and nice as they had once thought I was. I had to deal with that everyday of that school year and well into the next. The charges were later dropped though because they didn't catch us on the premises with the stolen lighters, but not before we completed our community service.

That was the first and LAST time that I was caught stealing, or plan to be for that matter. I learned a valuable lesson that day ..... Don't steal with other people, and don't steal by yourself, stealing is wrong and shouldn't been done. No matter what people tell you, or how cool they SAY it is, stealing is wrong. And that is a hard lessoned learned right there.
