A Bad Choise

Share

Have you ever got so cornored that you just had to get out. No matter the reason love, lack of love, parents or just sometimes you just need to run. That is what happened to me in Aug. 1991, I just had to run. I guess the only problem was I had no money and no suplies to make my great escape to Montana. Everything would be different there.

Why shouldn't it be, nobody knows me and I can start fresh. At least that was the idea. The only problem was that in the end befor I left I wrote 24 bad checks to get the money and stuff I needed. I seemed like a good idea at the time. The plan was to get a job and pay back the checks later, funny how the law isn't writen that way. But I am getting ahead of myself.

I should have known that I was doomed from the start, When I got about 100 miles away my transmission blew and I had to stay nearly a week in a little town before I could barter my Camera and 30/30 for a transmission. Did I mension that I was driving a 1980 Citation. After I got my car fixed I moved on and in a day and a half I reached Mussla Montana. It was by far the most beautiful place I ever travled to, except Glacier Park.

Once I arived I tried to find a job so I could start paying back the checks. I don't think I ever layed very low, I sent letters home and called my friends I realy thought that I was safe and I would not get cought. SIlly me, after about 2 mounts I was indeed arested. So there I sat for 35 days in the Mussila county Jail waiting to be extrided back to Cookeville.

In the end I got off very easy I only spent a totle of 39 days in jail, got 2 years probaation and restatution. I ended up paying back about three times what I wrote. But the cost in trust and the loss of friends I my never repay. It is this that hurt me the most, in a time of need I egnored my friends and family. I thought I was all alone but I wasnt. If one good thing ever came out of the mess I created was I have a stronger respect for freedom, family and friends. Please rember this bit of wisdom I have learned over the years, A crime is never truly bad if you learn a lesson from it (and I don't mean how to do it better.
I hope you have enjoyed this. Mike V.
